Which fishes are suitable for farming?

It is becoming apparent that only a few fish species are suitable for husbandry. In our fair-fish database we currently find four of them: Nile tilapia and African sharptooth catfish are quite suitable, and yellowtail amberjack and common carp are only just suitable.

What do you advise us to do?

Fishtest survey

You want to know if the fish you want to buy in the store or order in the restaurant is okay? The fish test helps you step by step to make the best choice.

Should the fish test be strict in assessing fish welfare in aquaculture and insist on a label that also controls fish welfare - or is self-declaration by fish farmers sufficient?
(only one answer possible)

Fair Trade survey

The market is still looking in vain for fish from Fair Trade. This is surprising, because fish is one of the most traded products from South to North, and this trade in particular is usually more exploitative than fair.

How should far-fish promote fair trade in fish?
